In March, I will be taking on the highest point in Africa- Mt. Kilimanjaro. I will be doing 6 days on the scenic and rugged Umbwe Route, with 3 days & nights between 11,000 and 13,000 feet.
On this route we trek high and camp low, allowing us to acclimatize to the altitude thus helping our chances of success. This route includes an overnight trek from 15,000 feet to the summit which is 19,000 ft (a 15-19 hour trek in one day including the descent).
The Umbwe route is often heralded as the most beautiful of all Kilimanjaro routes and among the more challenging. With its steep non-technical approach that requires periodic rock scrambling, the Umbwe route is appropriate for experienced hikers.
This route is worlds away from the heavily touristy Marangu (Coca-Cola) Route. Thomson makes it special with our experienced staff, safety equipment, food and all the services that make us stand apart from other companies.
Why I Chose This Opportunity
Remembering My True Self & Feeding My Soul
The truth is that we are all ONE. However our ego loves to tell us another story. When we can really get back to what we instinctually know in the depths of our soul, that we are all God, then we can really have a powerful and joyful existence. This trip for me is to have a fundamental experience of my true self and inspire others to look deep within for their own truth, underneath the veil of the ego’s illusion.
Empowering Others To Step Outside Their Comfort Zone
This trip will by far be the most challenging on all levels: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. I know that I’m going to have incredible experiences that will challenge my comfort zones and the patterns I use to avoid uncomfortable situations. It is my hope to not only overcome my own issues, but support others on their journey to reach beyond their known worlds.
Healing the World And The People In It
So much of the world needs to be infused and anchored with love. I stopped watching the news about a year ago, not because I didn’t want to know what was going on, but because there was just so much negativity and it was affecting me on a very deep level. I vowed that I did not want to be one of those on-lookers who just complain about the negativity. This mission is really to empower people to recognize how powerful love is and how powerful each and everyone of is to do something about the negativity in the world.
Understanding the Unfair Distribution of Wealth In The World
Growing up in a Western society and especially in Southern California, I have had the most privileged lifestyle. They say that if you have a bed, fridge, closet and a roof over your head, you are richer than 75 percent of the world. If you have a bank account you are richer than 35 percent of the population. I have this and so much more and I’m determined to understand why the distribution of wealth is so unfair and morally wrong. How Rich Are You?
Learning The Grass Is Greener Where You Water It
To be fully in the state of gratitude in every moment is said to be in the presence of God. Seeing first hand how lucky and wealthy we are in the United States will certainly put things into perspective for us all. I used to be one of those people who couldn’t watch the infomercials with the impoverished children with flies in their eyes. I had to turn the channel because I felt so much guilt because I knew I wasn’t doing everything I could to change this world for the better. I’m hoping to inspire all of us to stop hiding from the truth and to do something about it.[/indent] [/grid_9]
